RIO DE JANEIRO, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Former Bayern Munich and Brazil international full-back Jorginho has been named coach of Vasco da Gama for a second time.

The 53-year-old replaced Ze Ricardo, who stood down following the club's 2-1 defeat to Rio de Janeiro rivals Botafogo in Brazil's Serie A championship on Saturday.

Vasco announced the appointment on social media and said that the club's former goalkeeper, Paulo Cesar Gusmao, would be his assistant.

Jorginho, also coached Vasco in 2015 and 2016, leading the club to the Rio de Janeiro state championship in his second season.

Capped 68 times for Brazil's national team, Jorginho's playing career included spells at Vasco, Sao Paulo, Fluminense, Flamengo, Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Kashima Antlers.

On Sunday he was sacked as coach of Ceara after just two weeks in the role. Vasco's next match is against Cruzeiro away from home in the Serie A on Wednesday.
