BEIJING, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Olympic Broadcast Services (OBS) will showcase a different China throughout 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, OBS CEO Yiannis Exarchos told Xinhua Thursday here during the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics debriefing.

The coverage of Beijing 2008 was a milestone for OBS as the Games was the first to be produced fully in high definition. For Beijing 2022, Exarchos says OBS will continue to adopt emerging technology like 4K, 8K and virtual reality. OBS also hopes to experiment with artificial intelligence (AI) during the broadcasting process.

"Most importantly, we want to showcase Beijing in a different way. At Beijing 2008, I think it was a time when the rest of the world discovered an emerging China. In 2022, our opportunity first of all is to showcase to the world a Beijing probably not everyone knows," said Exarchos.

"The Beijing winter. I have been living in Beijing for more than three years. I love the Beijing winter with its snow and cold weather. It has a totally different feeling," Exarchos added.

Exarchos admitted that China is not a country traditionally known for its winter sports but he says that it can definitely become a winter sports destination.

"We need the Games to be smarter by proving we can stage things that are sustainable and that we can serve people in host countries for the future. Future organizers of the Games have opportunities that weren't there in the past," Exarchos said.

He also went on to say that the International Olympic Committee plays an important role in gathering knowledge before the event, and that there are also stakeholders who can contribute valuable expertise.
