ANKARA, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Two soldiers were killed and another one was wounded in a rocket attack by outlawed Kurdish rebels in Turkey's southeastern Hakkari province, local government said Wednesday.

A statement from the Hakkari governor's office said the separatist militants carried out the rocket attack at around 10:30 a.m. local time (0730 GMT) on a Turkish military convoy passing from a military command in the Cukurca district, close to the border with Iraq.

Turkish security forces have launched air-supported operations to capture the suspects in the region, according to local media.

The attack came as Turkey intensified cross-border airstrikes against suspected bases belonging to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in northern Iraq's Qandil and Sinjar regions since June 11.

On Tuesday, at least two soldier were killed in two separate bomb attacks by the PKK militants in southeastern provinces, military said.
