DOHA, June 27 (Xinhua) -- The World Council of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has appointed Qatar's Sheikh Thani bin Ali Al-Thani to its International Court of Arbitration, state-run Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported on Tuesday late evening.

Qatar Chamber (QC) said in a statement that the appointment will take effect from July 1 for the term 2018-2021.

"I am delighted and honored to serve in this role and to make an effective contribution to the quality and efficiency of services provided by the ICC Court,'' Sheikh Thani commented on the appointment.

He added that the appointment came at a time when his country has recently modernized its law on arbitration in 2017, the report said.

Founded in 1923, the International Court of Arbitration helps resolve difficulties in international commercial and business disputes to support trade and investment.
