MACAO, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The liquid petroleum gas tank in a restaurant in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) exploded late Tuesday night, killing one people and injuring at least six others, the SAR's fire service bureau confirmed on Wednesday.

The explosion occurred at about 10 p.m. (GMT 1400) local time on Tuesday, when the restaurant was still in service. A total of four liquid petroleum gas tanks were found in the restaurant.

A woman was trapped under a collapsed wall of a residential building adjacent to the restaurant, and was found dead after rushing to the hospital. Among the injuries, three people were in severe condition.

According to the preliminary investigation, the explosion was caused by the leakage of liquid petroleum gas, the fire service bureau told reporters.

Macao's security chief Wong Sio Chak went to see the injured earlier Wednesday and expressed his condolences to the family of the victim, promising that the SAR government would offer all the necessary assistance.
