BERLIN, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Bobby Wood left relegated Hamburg and joined Hannover on loan with immediate effect, both clubs confirmed on Monday.

The Lower Saxony side reinforced their squad with the signing of USA international Bobby Wood, who has penned a season-long loan deal with an option to make the deal permanent.

"Bobby Wood fulfills exactly the profile of a striker we have defined. He is a highly talented player who has proven his potential already," Hannover's sporting director Horst Heldt said.

The 25-year-old striker played for Hamburg since 2016 and provided seven goals and two assists in 52 competitive outings. Wood is since 2013 part of the United States national team where he scored 12 goals in 39 caps.

"I had very good talks with the coach, I know what kind of football the club plays and what role I play within this system. My feeling told me that joining Hannover is the right decision," Wood told the club's official homepage.

Hannover maintained their top-flight status after finishing on the 12th place of the Bundesliga standings.
