PARIS, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Dan Martin from UAE Team Emirates won his first victory at the 2018 Tour de France on the sixth stage with an early break at the Tour's first summit finish.

Martin saw his chance when Richie Porte broke free from the pack first with nobody immediately trying to catch up. Accelerating 1km from the finish line, the 31-year-old outpaced Pierre Latour and Alejandro Valverde in the final sprint and claimed his second Tour de France victory after 5 years.

Having not long joining Team Emirates from Quick Step, Martin dedicated the win to his new team.

"I came to this team to be the leader, and the pressure at the beginning of being the leader is why I didn't do so well in Spring," said Martin afterwards, "But there's a great feeling in the bus now, laughing and joking and this win is for them, they really looked after me."

The Irish rider finished the 183km race from Brest to Mur-de-Bretagne Guerledan in 4 hours, 13 minutes, 43 seconds.

Green jersey wearer Peter Sagan came up eighth, extending his overall lead over Colombia's Fernando Gaviria.

Overnight leader Greg Van Avermaet finished in the same time as Sagan to wear the yellow jersey for a third day, whereas title contenders Dumoulin and Bardet lost time due to mechanical issues.

The upcoming seventh stage runs from Fougeres to Chartres. The 231km flat ride is the longest in this year's tournament.
