GAZA, July 16 (Xinhua) -- A senior Iranian army commander said Monday that he is "so proud of what the Palestinian armed resistance is doing in Gaza."

Gholam Hossein Gheibparvar, commander of Iran's Basij forces, made the remarks during a video conference held in Gaza and Tehran between the Islamic Hamas movement and Iran.

"The Israeli entity, which kills children, was raising the slogan: the state of Israel is from the Nile to the Euphrates. But today it is unable to achieve its goal under the Palestinian resistance, which proves its success and value every day," said the Iranian official.

"Gaza youths have stolen rest and sleep from the Israeli occupation leaders," said Gheibparvar, referring to the flaming balloons and kites flying from the Gaza Strip into Israel.

Meanwhile, Gheibparvar stressed that "the threats of U.S. President Donald Trump to destroy the resistance and specifically to Iran will not terrify us. We are not afraid of Trump because the future is ours and he and his front will vanish."

Gaza organizers of the conference accused Israel of trying to disturb Gheibparvar's speech.

It is the first time that a senior Iranian leader spoke at a conference held in Gaza and organized by Hamas. Israel and the United States accused Iran of backing Hamas and Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip in carrying out attacks against Israel.
