DUBAI, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) flagship carrier Emirates Airline has transported more than 105 million passengers on A380 flights since it put the first regular A380 aircraft into use 10 years ago, Emirates said in an e-mailed statement on Wednesday.

More than 1.5 billion km on 115,000 A380 flights has been recorded since Aug. 1, 2008, equivalent to 39,000 trips around the globe, it added.

The Dubai-based airline is the world's largest operator of A380 aircraft, with 104 double-decker aircraft flying to 49 cities on six continents on scheduled services.

In addition to its current 104-strong fleet, the UAE airline has a further 58 A380s on order.

Tim Clark, president of Emirates, called the last decade "10 extraordinary years" for the airline after the first A380 took off from Dubai to New York.

"Passengers love to fly it because of its spaciousness, which provides more comfort across all classes, and its iconic products like the OnBoard Lounge, Shower Spa and First-Class suites have redefined air travel," he noted.

Emirates' latest Airbus A380 order package was placed on Jan. 18, a 16-billion-U.S.-dollar deal for 36 additional aircraft.
