TEHRAN, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- The United States has been replaced by Britain in a working group tasked with redesigning the Arak heavy water reactor in central Iran, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) announced on Wednesday.

"With the unilateral U.S. withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Britain has replaced the United States in the group tasked with redesigning the Arak heavy water reactor," the AEOI Chief Ali Akbar Salehi told state IRIB TV.

Meanwhile, Salehi said Washington's withdrawal from the nuclear deal has not affected Iran's peaceful nuclear activities, including exploration, research and development or in the construction of new power plants and activities such as production of drugs or hospital construction.

The country's nuclear projects "are progressing well and there is no problem," he added.

Under the JCPOA signed between Iran and six world powers in 2015, Iran agreed to redesign the 40-megawatt Arak research reactor to sharply cut its potential output of plutonium.
