JAKARTA, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- India coach Arithial Jayarajan said on Thursday that Indian swimmers are making steady progress and will be having better results in future.

In the ongoing Asian Games here in Jakarta, India hasn't won a medal yet, but their swimmers have regularly made finals. "Compared to the last Asian Games we are making many more finals," Jayarajan said.

"We are improving and we have a plan for the next Asian Games. It takes time but we definitely have a good bunch of swimmers coming up."

Jayarajan is confident about the future prospects of Indian swimmers but warned that there's no instant fix because it takes years of hard work and devotion for swimmers to get near the top.

"Nowadays, people are taking up swimming more and more and they're improving every time they come to competitions like this, he said. "For the Olympics, we are looking more at 2024 than Tokyo but for Asian Games, we think we can win a medal next time."
