XI'AN, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Xi'an international marathon will be held on October 20.

The competition has three events, including the marathon, the half marathon and a 5km race. The runners can register through the official website (www.xian42195.com) on August 27. The organising committee will choose 15,000 marathon runners and 10,000 half marathon competitors via a lottery system.

Xi'an, home to the Terra-Cotta Warriors and Horses, attracted 20,000 runners from 26 countries and regions to participate in its first international marathon edition in 2017.

As one of the most popular marathon competitions in China, some local elements have been added to the race. The competitors enjoyed the privilege of visiting tourist attractions in Xi'an as well as sampling local cuisine after the race.

According to the Chinese Athletics Association (CAA) statistics, more than 1,100 marathons and related competitions have been held in 2017 all over China. Statistics show that nearly half of Xi'an citizens take part in exercise year-round.
