BEIRUT, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon's General Labor Union head on Wednesday called for shutting down businesses that employ foreign workers instead of Lebanese nationals.

"We call upon authorities to implement the law and shut down businesses that employ foreigners," Bechara El Asmar was quoted by Elnashra, an online independent newspaper, as saying.

He pointed to the hotel industry as one of the sectors employing non-Lebanese most.

"We ask all Lebanese employees in the hotel sector to submit a complaint to the Syndicate of Hotels Employees if they get replaced by foreign workers," he said.

Ola Boutros, advisor to the foreign affairs minister, announced earlier this month that 270,000 Lebanese people have lost their jobs after 384,000 Syrian refugees poured into the country's employment market.

"Around 150,000 of those who lost their jobs used to work in the service sector," she said.
