LHASA, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Red Cross Society of China and the regional government of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region signed an agreement Tuesday to further reinforce cooperation in humanitarian aid.

The organization will help and promote emergency rescue training, humanitarian aid, and international exchanges and cooperation in the region, according to the agreement.

A handbook concerning aid projects in Tibet between 2018 and 2020 has also been released. A total of 18 Red Cross societies from other Chinese provinces and regions will take part in targeted aid projects on diverse poverty alleviation and disasters relief requirements across the region.

"As a humanitarian social relief organization, we should focus on poverty-stricken regions such as Tibet, and humanitarian needs in such areas should be the motivation and direction of our jobs," said Wang Haijing, vice president of the Red Cross Society of China.

The organization has decided to provide 5 million yuan (731,000 U.S. dollars) to set up a disaster preparedness and relief center in Tibet. More funds in terms of hematopoietic stem cell donation, and organ donation and transplantation will be established.
