SINGAPORE, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 1.69 percent or 54.23 points to close at 3,156.28.
A total of 1.66 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.05 billion Singapore dollars (about 762.9 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 302 to 119.
The STI index went up 0.1 percent or 3.31 points to close at 3210.51 Tuesday.
