NEW DELHI, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- As many as 36 people have died due to a mystery fever in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, health officials said Tuesday.

The deaths were reported from the state's Bareilly and Badaun districts.

"While 20 people succumbed to the fever in Bareilly, some 16 died in Badaun district. All these deaths occurred in the past 15 days," a senior health official said.

The state government has formed high-level medical teams to look into the cases and a central team has also reached Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow.
