MADRID, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese telecom giant Huawei on Thursday joined hands with Spain's CRIS Cancer Foundation and two-time world figure skating champion, Javier Fernandez, to fight against cancer in children.

At an event held at the Palacio de Hielo (Ice Palace) ice rink in the Spanish capital Madrid, they said that according to a trilateral agreement between them, for every sale of Huawei's P Smart Plus smartphone, the company would make a donation to funds for a CRIS research project intended to improve the treatment of cancer in children.

Pablo Wang, director of Huawei's consumer department in Spain, said Huawei is "very happy to form part of such a good and, sadly, a necessary cause."

He added the "most important thing" about the P Smart Plus is that it contributes to funding the research on cancer in children.

Javier Fernandez, who is the star in the campaign to promote Huawei's P Smart Plus phone, has donated his earnings from the promotion campaign to the CRIS foundation's project.

"I am proud to be able to lead this wonderful and humanitarian project," he said, expressing appreciation to Huawei for enabling him to help a lot of children and help find cures for cancer.

A cancer patient herself, Lola Manterola, vice president of the CRIS foundation said that her organization promotes key research projects.

Medical research is vital to beating cancer, which will allow "advances to get to the patients as quickly as possible," she said, thanking Huawei's support for the CRIS cancer research project.
