BERLIN, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Goals from Matthias Ginter and Patrick Herrmann helped Borussia Monchengladbach to extend Schalke's losing streak at the 3rd round in Bundesliga on Saturday.

The "Foals" staged a clinical chance conversion to inflict Schalke the third straight defeat into the season.

Monchengladbach secured a bright start on home soil as Matthias Ginter headed home a corner from Jonas Hofmann to shock the visitors with the opener with only three minutes into the encounter.

Schalke were unable to respond meanwhile Monchengladbach continued on the front foot. However, the hosts lacked in accuracy and squandered chances to extend the lead through Alassane Plea and Thorgan Hazard.

Just before the break Schalke came to their first opportunities when Mark Uth missed the target twice from promising position.

After the restart, Schalke increased the pressure but they failed to pose any threat to Monchengladbach's well-positioned bulwark.

As the match progressed, Monchengladbach assumed control as Denis Zakaria came close before substitute Patrick Herrmann slotted home the 2-0 lead following an assist from Plea in the 77th minute.

Schalke kept it bowling and was rewarded with their late consolation as Breel Embolo reduced the arrears with a long-range effort in the closing period.

With the win, Borussia Monchengladbach recorded their second victory and climbed on the 4th place while Schalke slipped to the 15th position.

"We did not play very well in the first half. After the interval we played better but Monchengladbach have a great goalkeeper with Yann Sommer," Schalke's head coach Domenico Tedesco said.

"We secured a deserved victory. We were the better team through the ninety minutes," Monchengladbach's head coach Dieter Hecking said.

The following fixtures conclude the 3rd round in Bundesliga on Sunday. Werder Bremen clash with newly promoted Nuremberg and Freiburg face Stuttgart.
