TRIPOLI, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Arab Organization for Human Rights on Friday condemned the violent clashes in west of the capital Tripoli between armed groups.

The Organization said that both fighting groups are affiliated to the UN-backed government, calling for immediate cease-fire and stressing the need to bring "violators of international humanitarian law to justice and guarantee they do not remain unpunished."

The Organization also expressed support for the efforts of the UN Special envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame, regarding appointment of an international special human rights rapporteur.

The reasons for the clashes remain unknown. No government statement has yet been issued regarding the clashes.

Southern Tripoli recently witnessed fierce fighting between forces allied with the government and armed groups, which killed and injured hundreds of people.

The fighting ended a few days ago with an agreement signed by the warring parties.

Libya has been suffering insecurity and escalating violence since the fall of former leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011.
