TAIYUAN, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- More than 1,000 pieces of cultural relics in the permanent collection of the Palace Museum were put on a six-month exhibition from Monday in Taiyuan, capital city of north China's Shanxi Province.

The exhibits on display marked a record high in the number of collections the Palace Museum lent to a museum outside Beijing, according to Shan Jixiang, curator of the Palace Museum.

The Palace Museum, with more than 1.86 million collections in total, has limited exhibition space in its own buildings, he said.

The imperial-palace-turned museum, also known as the Forbidden City, chose to cooperate with other museums so that the precious cultural relics would not "sleep" in storerooms, said Shan.

The exhibition in Taiyuan Museum focuses on seven themes, including court enamel vessels, imperial kiln productions, paintings, calligraphies, old pictures, and digitalized contents.
