New ministers take oath in Jordan as PM reshuffles gov't

AMMAN, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- A royal decree was issued on Thursday approving a reshuffle in Prime Minister Omar Razzaz's government.

The shakeup, which came upon the prime minister's recommendation, included eight incoming ministers, according to a Royal Court statement.

The ministers who join the government included Bassam Talhouni, appointed as minister of justice, and Raed Abu Saoud, appointed as minister of water and irrigation.

Other members of the team also included Majd Shweikeh as minister of institutional and administrative development, Ghazi Al Zaben as minister of health, Falah Omoush as minister of public works, Basma Ishaqat as minister of social development, Mohammad Abu Rumman as minister of youth and culture, and Ibrahim Shahahdeh as minister of agriculture and environment.

The ministers were sworn in before King Abdullah II of Jordan in the presence of Razzaz.

This is the first cabinet reshuffle in the government of Razzaz which was appointed in June this year after the resignation of former Prime Minister Hani Mulki following nationwide protests in rejection of the income tax draft bill.
