JAKARTA, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian athletes competing in the current Asian Para Games in the country have secured scores of gold medals which have exceeded the target.

Indonesian Youth and Sport Minister Imam Nahrawi disclosed on Friday that the country's contingent has, so far, got 24 golds, more than the target of 16.

A total of 34 silvers and 39 bronzes have also secured in addition to the golds, Nahrawi cited.

"Our target has been passed upward," he said at the Gelora Bung Karno sport stadium here in the country's capital of Jakarta.

The achievement is the highest for Indonesia in its history of participation in the Asian Para Games, which was first held in Guangzhou of China in 2010.

"This is a new achievement in our history and we must be proud on this extraordinary achievement," Nahrawi asserted.

By Friday, Indonesia posted the sixth place in the medal standings of the Games held every four years.

During the late Asian Para Games held in Incheon of South Korea in 2014, Indonesian athletes secured a total of nine golds, 11 silvers and 18 bronzes, according to the youth and sport ministry.

A total of 2,800 athletes and 1,800 officials from 41 countries and regions are participating in the Asian Para Games 2018 from October 6 to 13.

The athletes with disabilities are competing in 18 sports, among them badminton, basketball, table tennis, swimming, chess, cycling, fencing and others, it revealed.
