TEHRAN, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced Saturday that Iran will keep its military advisory presence in Syria as long as the Syrian government demands it, Press TV reported.

The IRGC spokesman Ramezan Sharif said Tehran has been supporting Damascus in accordance with international regulations since the beginning of the crisis in the country.

The legitimate Syrian government has called for Iran's military advisory presence in the country, he said, adding that the Iran has made efforts to share its "useful" experience with the Syrian army and people to help them defend their country.

Resistance of the Syrian people and government has foiled a plot hatched by Israel and its allies aimed at dividing the Arab country to create a safety margin for Israel, he told Press TV.

"Four or five years after the beginning of the crisis in Syria, they (Israel and its allies) found out that they had failed to overthrow the Arab country's government and they are facing a professional Syrian army," the IRGC commander said.

He stressed that the outcome of the Syrian war marked a "big loss" for Israel.

Iran has emerged as the main regional ally to the Syrian government since the beginning of civil war in Syria in 2011.
