TAIPEI, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's unemployment rate eased to 3.76 percent in September, according to data released by the island's statistics agency Monday.

The figure was down 0.11 percentage point from a month earlier, and 0.01 percentage point lower from September last year, the agency said.

There were around 447,000 unemployed people in Taiwan in September, 14,000 fewer than in August, mainly because many of this year's graduates have secured jobs, the agency said.

The unemployment rate of those with a college degree was 5.21 percent, the highest among all educational levels.

In terms of age, the unemployment rate of the 20-24 age group was the highest, followed by the 15-19 and 25-29 age groups.

In September, about 11.45 million people were employed in Taiwan, down 0.09 percent from the previous month, the agency said, attributing the fall to the quitting of summer jobs and other temporary jobs.
