DOHA, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- American star Simone Biles and her US squad led in the women's qualification of the 2018 world gymnastics championships held in Doha on Saturday.

Biles made her successful return to international competition in Doha after taking a break in 2017. She impressed on all four events in qualification on Saturday as she topped the individual rankings in women's all-around, vault, balance beam and floor exercise, and second place on uneven bars. In women's all-around, she led with a total of 60.965 points, an astonishing 4.5-point margin ahead of her teammate Morgan Hurd, the defending world champion.

Mai Murakami of Japan is currently ranked third, followed by Nina Derwael of Belgium and Riley McCusker of the United States.

Biles also scored 15.966 in vault, the highest score of both the men's and women's competition so far.

Biles' performance was remarkable considering her late-night visit to the emergency room on Thursday for an untimely kidney stone, which she said caused her to skip Friday's training sessions, but she showed no signs of struggle in competition.

In women's team qualification, the US women led with 174.429, 12 points ahead of Japan, currently in second.
