AMMAN, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's State Security Court convicted 10 defendants on Tuesday over their involvement in 2016 terrorist attacks in the southern governorate in Karak.

The court sentenced the men to prison terms ranging from three years to life for their role in the attacks that occurred in 2016 in the Karak castle, a famous Crusader-era tourist attraction located some 120 km south of Amman.

Two of the defendants were sentenced to life in prison and four were given 15-year imprisonment, including one sentenced in absentia, a court source told Xinhua.

Four others were sentenced to three years in jail, while one defendant was acquitted.

In December 2016, 10 people, including a Canadian tourist, two civilians and seven security officers, were killed in the attack later claimed by the extremist group of the Islamic State.

The raid by the police of the castle resulted in the killing of four of the terrorists who were hiding in the castle.
