TEHRAN, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- The old air quality monitoring systems in Iran's capital Tehran will be replaced with new instruments from Japan, Eghtesdonline news website reported on Sunday.

The project is part of cooperation between Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Tehran Municipality to reduce air pollution in the capital city.

The instruments, imported from Japan, will replace Tehran air quality control infrastructure being used for at least 15 years.

The new devices will be used for analyzing the emissions released in the air, categorizing them based on the type of pollutants, and identifying their sources in Tehran metropolitan.

JICA will also help Tehran Municipality launch a diesel engine emission test center for buses, minibuses, and trucks in Tehran.

Several other joint projects between JICA and Tehran Municipality are to be launched in the next two years, said Yukiharu Kobayashi, head of JICA office in Tehran.

Besides the air quality monitoring systems, portable emission measurement systems will be supplied for vehicles that use gasoline and compressed natural gas (CNG).

A chemical analysis laboratory fitted with high-tech devices such as advanced microscopes will also be set up in Tehran, according to the report.
