TOKYO, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Thursday as the U.S. Nasdaq Composite Index's rise overnight brightened the market mood following recent selloffs of tech-related issues.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 51.65 points, or 0.24 percent, from Wednesday to 21,559.19.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 2.64 points, or 0.16 percent, at 1,618.53.
Oil and coal product, pharmaceutical and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
