DAMASCUS, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Russian military experts have started analyzing soil samples and pieces of shrapnel related to the recent suspected gas attack by the rebels in Syria's northern city of Aleppo, state news agency SANA reported Tuesday.

Valery Vasiliev, head of radiation, chemical and biological protection of the Russian forces in Syria, said that Russian military experts at a mobile compound started analyzing the samples of soil and parts of shells fired during the Saturday attack.

The Russian official said they will try to identify the toxic substance that was reportedly stuffed into the projectiles.

On Saturday, SANA reported that 107 civilians, most of whom were women and children, suffered suffocation when the rebels fired several projectiles on the residential areas in Aleppo.

It said chlorine gas was used by the rebels in the making of the projectiles.

Syrian Foreign Ministry has called on the international community to condemn the attack and take measures to stop foreign support to the rebels in Syria, saying such support led to the rebels' possession of poisonous gas.
