PRETORIA, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- South African Football Association (SAFA) on Tuesday said they have given the national female soccer team over 172,500 U.S. dollars for qualifying for the FIFA Women's World Cup.

"The bonuses paid, amounting to 172,500 U.S. dollars will be shared exclusively by the 21 players who participated at the Women's AFCON (Africa Cup of Nations) 2018," said SAFA in a statement.

The cheque was handed over to the team captain Janine van Wyk. Each of the 21 South African players will walk away with over 8,214 U.S. dollars.

Last weekend the team obtained a silver medal on the Africa Women's Cup of Nations and qualified for the FIFA Women's World Cup.

SAFA made the promise to give the players cash reward if they qualify before they left for the tournament.
