MADRID, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- The return legs of the Spanish Copa del Rey knockout tournament played on Wednesday night failed to produce any surprises with no underdogs able to qualify for the last 16 of the competition.

FC Barcelona made wholesale changes against Cultural Leonesa and two goals from Denis Suarez, as well as strikes from Munir El Haddad and Malcom saw them cruise past Cultural Leonesa 4-1 (5-1 on aggregate).

Atletico Madrid made hard work of fourth tier side Sant Andreu and went in 0-0 at the break, before second half goals from Thomas Lemar, Nikola Kalinic, Angel Correa and Vitolo secured a 4-0 win on the night and a 5-0 aggregate victory.

Sevilla also struggled against third tier Villanovense before going through 1-0 thanks to Andre Silva's goal early in the second half, although there were some nervous moments for fans in the Sanchez Pizjuan stadium as a late goal for the minnows would have seen them through on away goals.

Villarreal were a lot more convincing and had the night's hero in Karl Toko Ekambi, who scored 4 goals as his side dispatched second division Almeria 8-0 on the night to qualify 11-3 on aggregate.

Mikel Oyarzabal and Adnan Januzaj scored first half goals as Real Sociedad beat Celta Vigo 2-0 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate, while Girona came back from a goal down to defeat Alaves 2-1 and qualify 4-3 after a 2-2 draw in the first leg.

Valladolid also qualified after a 2-1 home with against a spirited second division Mallorca.

Tuesday saw Getafe, Valencia, Leganes and Espanyol qualify for the last 16, with the remaining ties, including Real Madrid's home game against third tier side, Melilla, to be played on Thursday.
