LONDON, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- English Premier League club Chelsea have issued a strong statement against fans who were involved in anti-Semitic chanting in their Europa League tie against Vidl Budapest on Thursday night.

The chants from a section of Chelsea's 1,200 travelling fans came just days after four people were seen hurling abuse at Manchester City's forward Raheem Sterling at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge ground on Sunday.

That incident is still being investigated to see if there was racism involved, and the club has reacted quickly and strongly to the incident in Hungary.

"Antisemitism and any other kind of race-related or religious hatred is abhorrent to this club and the overwhelming majority of our fans. It has no place at Chelsea or in any of our communities. We have stated this loud and clear on many occasions from the owner, the board, coaches and players," commented a Chelssa spokesperson.

"Any individuals that can't summon the brainpower to comprehend this simple message and are found to have shamed the club by using anti-Semitic or racist words or actions will face the strongest possible action from the club," they continued.

The game itself ended in a 2-2 draw but saw Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata suffer a knee injury.
