American film "Aquaman" continues to dominate Chinese box office

BEIJING, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The DC Comics superhero film "Aquaman" continued to lead the Chinese mainland box office for the second straight week, according to China Film News.

The film, starring Jason Momoa, who plays Khal Drogo in the popular TV series "Game of Thrones," has raked in more than 1.3 billion yuan (188.8 million U.S. dollars) by Dec. 16 since hitting Chinese screens on Dec. 7.

Second place went to Hayao Miyazaki's animation "My Neighbor Totoro," which has taken in over 89 million yuan at the box office since its release on Dec. 14.

Chinese comedy "A Cool Fish" came in third. The low-budget film with no A-list actors earned around 37.3 million yuan last week and has accumulated more than 781 million yuan. Indian comedy "Padman" took fourth place, generating nearly 36 million yuan since hitting Chinese cinemas on Dec. 14.

Rounding out the top five was domestic movie "Einstein and Einstein," which has made about 41 million yuan since its release on the Chinese mainland on Dec. 7.
