TOKYO, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks retreated Thursday morning tracking losses on Wall Street overnight as investor consternation was sparked after the U.S. Federal Reserve opted to hike its interest rates with two or more hikes expected for next year.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 356.49 points, or 1.70 percent, from Wednesday to 20,631.43.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 21.52 points, or 1.38 percent, at 1,534.63.
Marine transportation, securities house and machinery-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
