RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Most Brazilians believe the government should better control the flow of immigrants into the country, a survey released on Friday showed.

The survey, carried out by polling company Datafolha, indicates that 42 percent of citizens "completely agree" with the idea of tighter control over immigration to Brazil, with an additional 24 percent saying they somewhat agree with the statement.

Twelve percent of respondents somewhat disagree with the idea of stricter immigration control, while 18 percent disagree completely.

The survey, however, did not ask participants how they think stricter control should be carried out.

Recently, President-elect Jair Bolsonaro said his administration will use more rigorous criteria when allowing immigrants to enter Brazil.

Bolsonaro also signaled his intention to pull Brazil from the United Nations' Global Compact for Migration, a move the current Foreign Minister, Aloysio Nunes, said will cause problems for Brazilians living abroad.

Datafolha's survey was carried out among 2,077 people from 130 towns all over Brazil.
