LIMA, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Second Criminal Appeals Chamber of Peru on Friday rejected as "unfounded" the appeal filed by political leader Keiko Fujimori.
The ruling means she will continue to serve the 36-month preventive detention handed down by the Peruvian courts.
Judges Octavio Sahuanay, Jessica Leon and Ivan Quispe unanimously agreed to back the decision adopted on Monday by judge Richard Concepcion Carhuancho, against the leader of the opposition Popular Force (FP) party.
The daughter of ex-president Alberto Fujimori will continue to be held in prison in western Lima where she has been detained since Nov. 1, 2018.
The Criminal Appeals Chamber of Peru explained that although Keiko Fujimori does not represent a flight risk, she may obstruct the subsequent evidentiary activity.
She is being investigated for allegedly being involved with the case of bribes paid by the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.
Previous legal proceedings reveal that Keiko Fujimori received illicit money from Odebrecht to finance her presidential campaign in 2011.
