HANGZHOU, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- China's e-commerce giant Alibaba aided police in catching 1,953 suspects involved in counterfeiting related crimes in 2018, according to a report the company published Thursday.

The company said it offered 1,634 tips about fake products to law enforcement departments. The cases solved were worth about 7.9 billion yuan (1.16 billion U.S. dollars).

This is the fourth time Alibaba has published its annual counterfeiting report.

Li Xihan, director in charge of intellectual property right protection, said the company has been intensifying its anti-counterfeiting efforts these years. In 2018, it launched an original design protection platform. Over 1,000 brands have joined the platform.

By the end of 2018, 121 brands from 16 countries and regions had joined Alibaba's Anti-Counterfeiting Alliance.
