GAZA, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian official said on Thursday that the truce with Israel will be kept valid under the mediation of a senior Egyptian security intelligence delegation.

The announcement was made after a three-hour meeting between the Egyptian delegation and the leaders of the Palestinian factions at the office of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Gaza City.

Talal Abu Zarifa, a senior leader of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, told Xinhua that the meeting with the Egyptian delegation "was positive, important and fruitful."

"We discussed with the senior Egyptian security officials the calm understanding (with Israel), the internal Palestinian reconciliation issues and the recent crisis at Rafah Border Crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt," he said.

However, the calm may not last long "as long as the Israeli occupation is not committed to it," he added.

Earlier in the day, the Egyptian delegation arrived in Gaza from the West Bank through the Erez Crossing on the border with Israel.
