BOGOTA, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese Carlos Queiroz has emerged as the favorite to fill the vacant role as head coach of Colombia's national team.
The 65-year-old is negotiating with the Colombian Football Federation (FCF) and his appointment could be confirmed within days, according to the organization's vice-president Alvaro Gonzalez.
"Having ruled out the possibility of [Chile coach] Reinaldo Rueda and [Paraguay boss] Juan Carlos Osorio, we thought about Queiroz and we are in talks," Gonzalez told Caracol radio. "I think that we will know before this Friday."
Local media reported that FCF president Ramon Jesurun will travel to Dubai this week to finalize contract details. Queiroz is currently in the United Arab Emirates for the Asian Cup, where he is in charge of Iran's national team.
Queiroz has been head coach of Real Madrid, Portugal, South Africa and Sporting Lisbon - among other teams - during a 30-year managerial career.
Colombia have been searching for a manager since the resignation of Argentine Jose Pekerman in September.
