MEXICO CITY, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- At least 20 people were killed and 54 others injured in a pipeline explosion in the central Mexican state of Hidalgo on Friday, local authorities said.

The accident occurred around 7:00 p.m. local time (0100 GMT) at a pipeline spot in the community of San Primitivo of the municipality of Tlahuelilpan, when dozens of people gathered around the leak to collect fuel.

Omar Fayad, governor of Hidalgo, told local TV that the explosion followed by a fire killed at least 20 people and injured 54.
