SANAA, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- An explosion killed five foreign demining experts in Yemen's gov't-held province of Marib on Sunday, pro-government Almasdar online news website reported.

The explosion took place in a building used for training Yemeni government forces on defusing mines.

The experts were working on the Saudi-backed "Masam landmine clearance project in Marib."

The experts were killed after a mine exploded during the training, said the report without disclosing the experts' nationalities.

Saudi Arabia is leading an Arab military coalition that intervened in Yemen in 2015 to support the government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi after the Houthi rebels forced him into exile and seized much of the country's north, including the capital Sanaa.

The four-year-long war has killed more than 10,000 people, mostly civilians, displaced 3 million others and pushed the country to the brink of famine.
