ACCRA, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's Asante Kotoko advanced to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup after beating Cameroon's Coton Sport 2-1 in their second-leg duel on Sunday and enjoying a 5-3 on aggregate.

Captain Amos Frimpong converted a penalty on the stroke of half time to put the Kumasi-based club in front after a foul on striker Sogne Yacouba in the encounter played at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.

Midfielder Maxwell Baakoh extended the lead for the Ghanaian side in the 53rd minute with a beautiful strike.

Oumarou Sali got the consolation for the visitors in the 81st minute.

Kotoko, Ghana's flagbearers in the 2019 CAF inter-club competitions, recorded a 3-2 win over the Cameroonian giants in their first leg of the final round qualifiers played in Yaounde last week.

Kotoko, nicknamed "Porcupine Warriors", will join 15 other teams for the group stage of the 2018/2019 Confederation Cup for the first time since 2008.

Kotoko lost to rivals Accra Hearts of Oak in the maiden edition of the Confederation Cup in 2005.
