WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- American star skier Lindsey Vonn has decided to skip the weekend's World Cup races due to her knee injury.

"Unfortunately racing this weekend in Garmisch isn't in the cards," Vonn said in an Instagram post on Thursday. "My knee is still not ready to race. I am working as hard as I can to be back as soon as possible."

The 34-year-old has been bothered by injuries in recent years. She just returned to competition last week after suffering a knee injury in training in November.

Vonn, who holds the women's record of 82 World Cup wins, needs just five more victories to beat Swedish Ingemar Stenmark's record of 86.
