BEIJING, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM) said there have been no immediate casualties or economic losses reported after a 5.2-magnitude earthquake jolting northwestern regions Saturday morning.

Local fire and rescue forces were on their way to the epicenter of the quake, where power supply remained stable and communication was still accessible, according to the MEM.

The earthquake struck Tacheng city in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region at 5:54 a.m. Saturday, at a depth of 16 km.

The MEM ruled out the possibility of major quakes following but cautioned against aftershocks of around a magnitude of 4, suggesting local residents stay away from dilapidated buildings.
