Qatari team celebrates winning Asian Cup in Oman before heading back

MUSCAT, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Qatari team have landed in Oman's Sohar to celebrate their first-ever AFC Asian Cup championship with the Omani fans, before heading for Doha, Qatar on a private plane.

The Qatar team, after lifting the the Asian Cup on the grounds of the Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi, traveled on private buses to the city of Sohar, Oman to share with the Omani masses that stood with them the joy of winning the championship.

The Omani fans in Sohar received the Qatari team, which arrived early this morning at 2:30 am, singing and repeating the words of victory and congratulations. The Asian champions then followed a motorcade in the city before headed to Doha on Saturday.

"I congratulate the Omani fans, because they really played a big role in supporting our team, thanks for them," Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, president of the Qatar Football Federation, said in a speech at the reception.

Qatar beat Japan 3-1 in the final of the AFC Asian Cup held on Friday evening in the United Arab Emirates to be crowned champions.
