ISLAMABAD, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake of 5.6 magnitude jolted parts of Pakistan including the capital city of Islamabad on Tuesday night, the country's National Seismic Monitoring Center said.
According to the center, the quake struck at 9:47 p.m. local time, with the epicenter determined at 104 km northeast of Muzaffarabad area of Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, with a depth of 40 km.
The strong tremors were felt in different areas of the country, including northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and some districts of eastern Punjab province, local media reported.
The tremors created panic among people who rushed to the open places. However, no loss of life or property has been reported yet.
Pakistan has a worse history of serious earthquakes as it is located at one of the most earthquake prone areas with high vulnerability to earthquakes.
Tuesday's earthquake is the second quake above 5.0 magnitude hitting Pakistan over the last four days. Earlier on Saturday, a 5.8-magnitude quake hit parts of the country.
