TRIPOLI, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- The UN Support Mission in Libya and the Libyan government on Tuesday launched a 202-million-U.S.-dollar humanitarian response plan for more than half a million people in the country.

According to the Libyan prime minister's information office, the funds will be used to cover urgent humanitarian needs, including healthcare, water and education.

"The effort in this humanitarian action is part of a collective work that includes politics, security and development. Its success depends on progress in various tracks," said Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Serraj.

Ghassan Salame, the UN mission head, praised the Libyan government's economic reforms, saying the reform program should include both public and private sectors for economic recovery.

Oil-rich Libya has been suffering political division, armed conflict and economic instability since the fall of former leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011.

The North African nation has been struggling to provide basic services for its people, mainly proper education and healthcare.
