JAKARTA, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will send a total of 54 athletes to compete in the 2019 Special Olympics World Games in the United Arab Emirates later this year, according to Mustara Musa, deputy chairman of the Indonesian contingent.

The Special Olympics World Games will be held in the UAE's capital Abu Dhabi from March 8 to 22.

Musa said that Indonesia's athletes are currently training in the country's capital of Jakarta.

"The training camp aims to create a contingent which is mentally and physically ready to compete," he said.

During the training, athletes with disabilities would receive special attention for technical and non-technical skills as they need them, Musa added.

"We will train them in a special way that differs from athletes in regular competitions. Our coaches also have special skills," he said in a statement.

Alongside the athletes, a total of 20 coaches and 23 other staff members will be present at the event.

The Special Olympics World Games will stage 11 sports, including volleyball, badminton, basketball, table tennis, football and swimming, with over 170 countries sending athletes to participate in the tournament.
