17 die in Istanbul apartment building collapse

ISTANBUL, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- A total of 17 people have died in the collapse of an eight-storey apartment building in Istanbul, while 13 others are being treated in hospital, the Turkish health minister said on Saturday.

Of the injured, two are in "serious condition," Fahrettin Koca was quoted as saying by the state-run Anadolu Agency as he visited the victims at the hospital.

Thirty residents were inside the apartment building in the Kartal district when it collapsed on Wednesday, the report said.
