SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Five militants were killed Sunday in a fierce gunfight with troops in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.

The gunfight erupted at village Devsar of Kulgam district, about 73 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"Five militants were killed today in a gunfight with government forces in village Kilam-Devsar," Srinagar-based Indian army spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia told Xinhua, adding that weapons have been recovered from the spot.

Kalia said the operation has ended in the village.

According to officials Indian army or police have not suffered any damage in the stand-off.

Officials said the village was cordoned off following specific intelligence information suggesting the presence of militants.

Authorities have suspended mobile internet service in the district.

Reports said soon after the gunfight started, locals clashed with government forces in a bid to end he cordon. However, police fired tear smoke shells and warning shots to chase protesters.
